Enjoy a stay at Ocean Beach, Fire Island with EJ Autism Foundation.
Puzzler's Cove first became an idea in 2017 when Bea Petersen, the founder of EJ Autism Foundation, took a trip to Fire Island. She discovered that fire island offered something special to each of her four children. Her two sons with Autism, Eric and Jack, were particularly fascinated by the Ocean Beach home. At the end of the week, Eric locked himself in the outdoor shower because he did not want to leave. If Eric was so interested in this place, why wouldn’t other kids on the spectrum be?
This created her dream of Puzzler’s Cove: an Autism-friendly home on Ocean Beach that would allow families to enjoy luxurious stay-cations on Fire Island.
We take great lengths to ensure that our house is safe and accommodating. Safety features will keep your family secure, such as locks on all windows, alarms on all doors, a fence around the property, and a ring camera on the front door. Also, Fire island is innately safer because there are no cars on the island.
In addition, a social story will be available when families arrive, so that everyone can learn about the house and Ocean Beach.
Towels and umbrellas with the Puzzler's Cove logo are available at the house for families to bring with them to the beach. These will signal the family's presence to the lifeguards when they see the logo.
